Mark your calendar for this Friday, May 18th. At 3:00 p.m. sharp the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Rescue Program will be releasing two loggerhead sea turtles back into the wild. Brought into the hospital on the brink of death, these two resilient turtles have made a full recovery. This release is being held in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) and the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission (CCPRC). The event is open to the public; attendees should plan to carpool, arrive early, and expect to pay for parking at the County Park.
More on the sea turtles being released:
Jammer: Jammer is a 93-pound juvenile loggerhead sea turtle. S/he was rescued on the Isle of Palms near the Windjammer beach bar in April of last year. When brought into the hospital by SCDNR, Jammer was in extremely debilitated suffering from emaciation, dehydration, and had a heart rate of only 7 beats per minute. Upon admittance, there was concern that Jammer had neurological damage because s/he was swimming in circles in the same direction, but after several weeks of intensive care, Jammer began swimming normally. Treatment included antibiotics, fluids, vitamin injections, barnacle removal and treatment for shell damage due to secondary infection. After more than a year of treatment, Jammer is finally ready for the journey back into the Atlantic Ocean.
Hamlin Creek: Hamlin Creek is a 75-pound juvenile loggerhead sea turtle found in Hamlin Creek, also located on the Isle of Palms. S/he was rescued in June of last year suffering from severe dermatitis, dehydration, and had poor blood work. Treatment for Hamlin Creek included fluids, vitamin injections, and antibiotics. Since being admitted to the Sea Turtle Hospital, Hamlin Creek has gained weight and his/her skin has fully healed. Feisty and healthy, Hamlin Creek is ready to venture back into the open ocean.

You can help support the program by making a donation and by visiting the hospital on a behind-the-scenes tour. Just go to http://www.scaquarium.org for more information. With your support, staff can continue to rehabilitate sick and injured sea turtles found along our coast.
Fridays release is actually taking place on Endangered Species Day. The Sea Turtle Rescue Program is just one of the many ways the Aquarium is committed to protecting South Carolinas wildlife, fish, and plants at risk of extinction.

About the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Rescue Program:
In partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Rescue Program works to rescue, rehabilitate and release sea turtles that strand along the South Carolina coast. Ask photographer Robert B. Warren the inspiration behind his new photo collection, A Series in Nature II (published by Trafford Publishing), and the skilled shutterbug will give you three: the incredible beauty of land, sea and nature.
Long an admirer of natural beauty, Warren showcases his attunement with the outdoors in A Series in Nature II. Filled with vibrant, full-color photographs, the book chronicles a culmination of seven years of traveling and photographing Guatemala and the Western United States, including Hawaii.
An excerpt from the preface:
In nature the concept of duality can be seen in its symmetry: from the molecular level in the blueprint of life: DNAs alpha-helical structure, and in the mirror image structures of organic chemicals called stereochemistry. All life is made of chemicals. Even in the processs of life, cellular division we see symmetry in meiosis and mitosis.
Warren hopes this new collection will inspire others to explore the outdoors.
Most people either dont notice nature or their lives are removed of nature, says Warren. I hope this book brings some sense of peace and inspiration to readers.

The latest Budget Hotel Report released by CheapHotels.org has determined that Philadelphia is among the top three most expensive cities to stay in the United States. In coming up with its rankings, the report compared the amount travelers will have to pay, on average, for the cheapest available double room this upcoming May 30 at the nations top destinations.
The cost of that average double room in Philadelphia will run visitors a minimum of $ 154 per night. That price tag firmly positions the Southeastern Pennsylvania city as the third most expensive U.S. destination in terms of its lodging costs. Indeed, only Boston and New York are more expensive, running $ 194 and $ 172 respectively for overnight stays in their least-expensive available rooms.
For comparison purposes, only those hotels that are located in or very close to either the city center or its main attractions were considered. As a result, hotels situated close to the citys airports or in the suburbs, which often offer much cheaper rates, were excluded.
Conversely, Anaheim, Las Vegas and Orlando are much more budget-friendly locales for travelers. There, visitors can stay overnight for as little as $ 45, $ 36 and $ 33, respectively, in the cheapest available double room, making them 242% to 366% more affordable than Philadelphia.
The list that follows ranks the five most and least expensive destinations in the USA according to the cost of their accommodations. The prices quoted are for the least costly double hotel room currently available.
1. Boston $ 194
2. New York $ 172
3. Philadelphia $ 154
4. Washington, D.C. $ 145
5. New Orleans $ 117
26. Atlanta $ 52
27. Myrtle Beach $ 51
28. Anaheim $ 45
29. Las Vegas $ 36
30. Orlando $ 33
